Edistystä - Progress

Onneksi minulla on kärsivällinen asiakas... tämä merenneito tarvitsee näköjään ikuisuuden valmistuakseen! Meillä on ollut muurari tekemässä uutta uunia, ja en oikein pysty keskittymään työhön, mutta olen sentään vartalon saanut tehtyä.

I am lucky to have a patient customer... this mermaid takes forever to be finished! We have had a mason making us the new fireplace, and I haven't been able to concentrate in sculpting much, but I have managed to sculpt her torso.

Kasvot - The face

Pelkkään remonttihommaan en ole aikaani kuluttanut, kaiken keskellä olen kuin olenkin saanut tilaustyötä tehtyä! Kasvot ovat valmiit.

I haven't used all my time in the renovation hassle, in the middle of everything I have managed to sculpt the face for the commission mermaid!

Uunin purku - The fireplace goes

Remontista tuleekin suunniteltua laajempi... Pönttöuuni todettiin aikansa eläneeksi. Jo lämmittäessä mietittiin että miksi yksi kohta kyljestä kuumenee tosi paljon, onko palanut puhki... tulipesän sisus näytti siltä että tiilet alkavat kohta tippua, ja kun huoneen kattoa purettiin, piippu näytti välipohjan kohdalta aika huonokuntoiselta, yksi reikäkin löytyi! Mietittin myös, että koska uuni on joka tapauksessa uusittava jossain vaiheessa, miksei nyt samalla rytinällä? Tuumasta toimeen, muuraria etsimään ja uuden uunin suunnittelu käyntiin. Purettiin sitten vanha hyvin palvellut pönttöuuni pois - kuoret saatiin suht ehjinä pois, se menee naapuriin uusiokäyttöön. Meidän uusi uunimme tulee olemaan tiilistä muurattu, slammattu pystyuuni.

The renovation seems to give more work than we thought... Our round tin-covered fireplace was old and bad. When heating up we wondered why one side of it was really hot, maybe burned inside badly. When we teared down the ceiling, we found out that the pipe looked pretty bad, and there was even a hole in the side of it! Also we thought we have to make new fireplace one day anyway, so why not now, with the same hassle? We started to look for a mason, and designing a new fireplace. We teared down the old well served fireplace - the tin covering got out pretty nice, it will go to our neigbour to be used for a new round fireplace. Our new fireplace will be made from bricks and covered with mortar.

Eipä ole enää, vain kasa tiiliä ja laastia ja hirvittävä määrä pölyä jäljellä. Purkaminen kesti kaksi päivää.

Not any more, only a pile of bricks, mortar and awful amount of dust. It took two days to take it down.

Ikkunasta rakennettiin liukumäki, jota pitkin tiilet sai lu'utettua ulkona olevan puutarhatraktorin peräkärryyn.

We made a slide on the window, it was easy to slide the bricks down to the trailer of the garden vechile.

Remonttia - Renovating

Meillä on vähän sotkua! Päätettiin sitten aloittaa olohuoneen remontti tässä kevättä odotellessa. Kaikki kunnostetaan, tulee uusi lattia (vanha on joskus auottu, eikä entisistä lankuista ole mihinkään), kaksi kattoa puretaan ja otetaan hirret näkyviin. Seinille uusi tapetti. Ei ole oikein veistosten teko nyt edistynyt, sen verran hommia on ollut olkkarin kanssa, ja PÖLYÄ joka paikassa, vaikka ovissa pölysuojat onkin. Tämä aihehan ei liity taiteen tekemiseen, mutta jonkinlaista luomistahan tässäkin tulee olemaan... näette sitten aikanaan.

We have a bit of a mess around! We decided to start renovating the living room while waiting the spring to come. Everything will be done, the new floor boards (the floor has been opened once for extra insulation, and the old boards are useless), two ceilings will be teared down to expose the beams. New wallpapers. I haven't done any sculpting, I have been so busy with the living room, and DUST everywhere, although we have made dustblocks in doorways. This subject isn't about art... but actually there will be some kind of creating... you will see eventually.

The first ceiling was chipboard, this is the beginning!

Eristeet näkyvissä. Näitä ei enää tarvita, koska nyt meillä on yläkerta, ja lämmin välipohja.
Ceiling insulation. This won't be needed anymore because we have upstairs now, and the space between is warm.

Tämä kaunis vanha paneelikatto paljastui eristeiden päältä. Mutta se roikkuu, ja me halutaan kattoparrut!
This beautiful old panel ceiling was over the insulation. But it hangs down in the middle, and we want beams!

Järkyttävä määrä hiekkaa, savea ja kiviä tuli alas kun paneleita purettiin uunin vierestä. Ja se pöly! Köh köh.
Enormous amount of sand, clay and stones came down when tearing down the panels beside the oven. And the dust! Cough cough.

Viimein paksut hirret ovat näkyvissä, ihanat! Hirsistä tulee tummanruskeat ja välit maalataan ehkä valkeiksi.
At last we can see the big beams, they are lovely! The beams will be dark brown and the boards above will be white.

Earth Hour

Osallistumme jälleen tänä vuonna maailmanlaajuiseen Earth Hour - tapahtumaan. Sammutamme valot tunniksi lauantai-iltana klo 20.30 - 21.30 ja tunnelmoimme kynttilänvalossa. Pelkkä tunti ilman valoja ei tietenkään paljon energian-kulutusta vähennä, mutta se onkin kannanotto ilmastonmuutoksen hillitsemiseksi. Pitää niitä turhia valoja ja koneita sammutella aina kun niitä ei tarvita... säästää sekä ympäristöä, että omaa kukkaroa.

We are participating again this year in the worldwide Earth Hour. We shut down all lights and electronics on Saturday evening 8.30 - 9.30 pm, and spend time in candlelight. Of course one hour won't much reduce the electricity usage, but it is more like a stance. You must shut down lights and electronic equipments whenever you don't need them... saves the environment and your money.
