Kissaveistos - Cat sculpture

Olen käynyt syksyn ja talven aikana kerran viikossa keramiikkakurssilla saven kanssa leikkimässä, ja syntyi kissa. Ja sitten toinen. Vasta ensimmäisestä on kuva, ja molemmat ovat vielä kuivumassa polttoa varten, savi muuttuu poltettaessa mustaksi. Toinen kissa kellottelee selällään venytellen etutassujaan haukotellen hampaat irvessä. Tykkään ihan hirveästi muovata savea! Aika kuluu kuin siivillä ja pää tyhjenee kaikista muista ajatuksista. Hyvin terapeuttista. Luulen, että kevättalvella syntyy vielä lisää kissoja.

I have been on the ceramic class during autumn and winter once a week, playing with clay, and a cat was born. And then another one. I have a picture only from the first one, and they both are still drying slowly before going to the kiln after Holidays, the clay will turn black when fired. The second cat is laying on her back and stretching her front legs, yawning and showing her teeth. I really like sculpting with pottery clay! The time flies and you don't think of anything else but the clay and your fingers working on it. Very therapeutic. I think more cats will be born in late winter.

Tässä on pari vuotta sitten tekemäni kissa. Kaikki ovat itämaisia lyhytkarvoja, jokin niissä viehättää.

I made this cat a couple of years ago. All my cats are oriental shorthairs, they inspire me somehow.

Siinä hän nyt on! Eilen oli näyttelyn avajaiset ja ihmiset tykkäsivät kovasti. Karin voit tavata livenä Rautalammin museolla 30.9. saakka. Kuvat puhukoon puolestaan, olen itse aika tyytyväinen työhöni, ensimmäinen näköisnukke.

There he is! The exhibition opening party was yesterday and the quests loved him. I'll let the pictures speak... I think I'm quite proud, he's my first portrait doll!

Ryppyjä - Wrinkles

Nyt on ryppyjä ja tekstuuria ihossa! Seuraavaksi pitää istuttaa viiksikarvat ja kulmakarvat, ja ohimoille vähän valkoista hiusta. Ehkä myös silmäripset... hänellä oli hyvin ohuet ja näkymättömät silmäripset, mutta ehkä nekin tarvitaan. Yläripset voi liimata, ne ovat niin syvällä luomipoimun alla.

Now he has wrinkles and skin texture! Next work is rooting the moustache and eyebrows and some white hair on his temples above the ears. And I am thinking if I should root eyelashes too... on the lower eyelids. He had thin short eyelashes, but I suppose they are needed too. Upper lashes can be glued, they are so deep inside the lid curve.

Toinen käsi - The Left hand

Ja tässä toinen käsi, ehkäpä nämä ovat nyt paistovalmiit. Sitten kasvojen kimppuun, ryppyjä, ihohuokosia, kurttuja... tein PVA-liimalla appelsiininkuoresta ja nahasta "leimasimia", niillä saa aika kivaa pintaa aikaiseksi, käytin nahkaleimasimia myös käsissä. Tosin näkyvin osa käsien ihokuvioinnista on tehty neulatyökalulla, mutta nahkakuviointi on siellä pohjana.

And here is the left hand, I think these are ready for oven now. Then the face... wrinkles, dents, pores... I made stamps from PVA-glue on orange peels and leather, the stamps make quite accurate skin texture, I used the stamps of leather on the hands too. Although the most of skin texture on the hands is made with needle tool, but the leather texture is there on the bottom.

Käsi - A Hand

Käsien kimpussa nyt. Ensimmäinen taitaa olla valmis... toinen vähän vielä vaiheessa. Olisiko tuosta kapineesta vinkiksi?

Vartalo - The body

Hahhahhaa. Kukaan ei sitten ole arvannut. Tai ainakaan uskaltanut tuoda julki arvailujaan. Pari sataa kävijää kumminkin on päätä käynyt katsomassa... pitäisikö tästä lannistua? Hmmm. No, tässä on vartalo. Sain mallinuken, mutta se oli liian hoikka poika, joten kasvatin vähän lihaa luiden ympärille paperimassalla. Toivottavasti puku on nyt sopiva.

Hahaha, no one has guessed anything. Should I get depressed... ? Hmm. Well, here is his body. I got an old mannequin doll, but it was too thin, so I bulked it up with papier maché. I hope he fits in his suit now.

Joulupukki - Santa Claus

Siinä hän nyt on, joulun kunniavieras, kaikessa komeudessaan. Minun iso joulupukkini! Olen hyvin tyytyväinen, ensimmäinen oikean ihmisen kokoinen hahmoni onnistui yli odotusten. Ja kaiken lisäksi oli todella mukava projekti ja nautin siitä kovasti! Joulupukista tuli ystävällisen ja iloisen näköinen heppu, jota toivottavasti lapset eivät pelkää. Joulupukki asustelee nyt Kahvila Aurorassa Suonenjoella asiakkaiden ihmeteltävänä ja ihasteltavana.

Joulupukin takki on vanha punainen villakangastakki, johon ompelin turkisreunukset vanhasta (piisami?) turkista. Samoin kuin villakankaasta tehtyyn hiippalakkiin. Hänellä on jalassaan vanhat lapikkaat ja kädessään turkisrukkaset. Pukin kasvothan tein polymeerimassasta kipsi"naamion" päälle muotoilemalla, ja vartalo on tehty vaahtomuovista rautatankoluurangon päälle. Alunperin pukille tekemäni silmät menivät harmillisesti pilalle lakan ja akryylivärin yhteensopivuusongelmien takia, ja minun piti käyttää teollisesti valmistettuja muovisilmiä. Onneksi en ollut ehtiä liimata silmiä paikalleen ennen kuin huomasin niiden vioittuneen.

There he is, the honoured guest of the Holiday time. My life size Santa Claus! I am very pleased with him, the first life-size figure I have made and he came out so great. Besides that, this was really great project and I enjoyed working with it so much! He is jolly and kind looking old chap, and I hope the children will not be frightened of him. The Santa Clause is placed in the coffeeshop Kahvila Aurora now for people to see.

The Santa's coat is an old red woollen coat that I decorated with trimmings that I made of an old (muskrat?) furcoat. As well as the red hat. He has old traditional Finnish leather boots, and fur-lined leather mittens.

Hauska projekti - Fun project

Olen tehnyt älyttömän hauskaa työtä! Ihan itsekseni hihittelen täällä kun teen hommia. Aika järkkyä tekohampaineen ja silmineen, mutta toisaalta niin todella mukavaa! Tästä tulee oikean ihmisen kokoinen juttu... mahdottoman hauskaa tehdä suurta vaihteeksi. Tein mieheni kasvoista kipsiharsolla muotin, ja muotoilin sen päälle kasvot polymeerimassasta. "Kallossa" joka tulee kasvojen sisälle, on hampaat ja silmät kiinni, ja se on tehty polyuretaanivaahdosta kipsimuotin sisälle pursottamalla. Silmät tein myös itse puuhelmistä. (Viimeisessä kuvassa on toiset, huonot silmät.) Seuraavaksi maalaus...

I have been working with a really fun project! I am giggling here alone while working. Pretty gross with the dentures and eyes and all, but I am really enjoying myself with this! This will be a real human size thing... I really love working in big scale for a change. I made a plaster mold of my hubby's face and sculpted over that with polymer clay. The "skull" that goes inside, is made of expanding polyurethane foam. I made the eyes too (in the last pic they are another not so good pair of eyes in the sculpting phase.) next I am going to paint the face...
